1) A Day So Busy It Makes You Lose Your Heart
Have you ever finished work, sat down in your chair, and found yourself unable to move for a while...? Perhaps you have had that kind of experience. When you look back, you can hardly remember whom you talked to today, what you talked about, or what purpose you spent the day for. Only the feeling remains—that it was a day simply spent getting through your schedule...
In Japanese, the kanji character for "busy" is written with the characters for "heart" or "mind" and "to lose". Being busy in itself may not be bad, but losing sight of the purpose behind it all might actually deal the greatest damage to our hearts. After all, "busyness" is the very first thing that chips away at our time to look inward and our time to genuinely face others.
2) The Answer to What We Offer
If tomorrow you were no longer needed by your company, what would remain in your hands?
The more time and energy a person has poured into their work, the more such anxiety may cross their mind. Compared to the magnitude of what they have given, the answer to what is left in their hands is surprisingly meager. Are we simply eating, working, growing old, and dying...? Such questions sometimes peek through the cracks of our busyness.
3) An Invitation to the Weary
There are words that have answered this heavy burden weighing upon the heart.
In the Bible, a book that has been read and cherished across the world, it is written:
28“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.
The one who speaks as "I" here is the central figure of the Bible, Jesus Christ, the Son of God.
4) What It Means to Be Off-Center
Then, what lies at the root of this "heavy bondage"?
When a bicycle is off-center, it will not run straight, and the rider cannot feel at ease. The human heart is very much like this. The Bible teaches that human beings were created to know God and to live in relationship with Him. However, we have turned away from God and begun to live with ourselves at the center. The Bible calls this sin. As a result, ourselves, the things we desire, or money have taken the place of God as the axis of our lives, causing both our hearts and our lives to slip away from where they ought to be.
The Bible teaches that all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God .
21But now apart from the law the righteousness of God has been made known, to which the Law and the Prophets testify.
All of us carry this "misalignment of the axis."
Yet God has not abandoned people like us; He gave His Son, Jesus Christ. Jesus bore our sins and went to the cross, opening the way for us to be reconciled to God.
5) Beginning Today
Jesus Christ, the Son of God, extends this invitation: "I will give you rest."
You do not need to decide everything today about whether to believe or not.
Even so, there is one thing I would like you to know.
God already knows you.
And He is eagerly waiting for that small voice you whisper in your heart. This is the best news possible for you.
Today, why not quietly put those words into spoken form to Jesus Christ? "Lord Jesus, I want to know You."
Your words do not need to be eloquent.
6) A Suggested Prayer
Today, you might pray like this. Jesus Christ is waiting for your words, for your prayer.
"Lord Jesus, I need You. Please help me recover the heart I lost amidst my busyness. I want to know more about the meaning of Your dying on the cross for my sins. Please turn my heart toward You and lead me to know You. Grant me the true rest and peace that I need."
