Even When Filled, We Thirst Again
You feel thirsty and gulp down a glass of cold water. In that exact moment, you are truly satisfied. Yet, after a little while, the very same thirst returns.
Has something similar ever happened on a day when you finally obtained something you desperately wanted? Even though you should have been filled, before you know it, you are searching for something again. Without knowing the true nature of this thirst, we buy new things. We achieve our goals. We win the approval of others. Every single time, we feel a little bit fulfilled. However, it never lasts long. Once again, we begin searching for the next thing. Without ever really knowing what it is we are thirsting for. And yet, we cannot stop searching.
God Already Knows
The Bible says this:
8Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him.
The Thirsty Person at the Well
There is a scene in the Bible like this: A woman came to draw water from a well, all by herself, in the heat of midday. There, she met Jesus, the central figure of the Bible. Jesus said to her:
13Jesus answered, “Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again,
14but whoever drinks the water I give them will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give them will become in them a spring of water welling up to eternal life.”
Would You Like to Drink That Water?
The Bible concludes with these words:
17The Spirit and the bride say, “Come!” And let the one who hears say, “Come!” Let the one who is thirsty come; and let the one who wishes take the free gift of the water of life.

Today, you might choose to pray like this: God is waiting for your words, for your prayer.
"Lord Jesus, I am thirsty. Thank you for dying on the cross for me and for forgiving my sins. Right now, I invite you into my heart. From this day forward, be the Lord of my life and guide me. Fill me with the water you give—water that will never let me thirst again."
