1) When Life Gets So Busy You Lose Yourself
Have you ever come home from work, sat down, and felt too exhausted to do anything else?
Maybe you’ve had days when everything seems like a blur. You can barely remember who you talked to or what you did. You were busy all day—but by the end of it, you find yourself wondering what it was all for.
There’s an interesting picture hidden in the Japanese word for “busy.” The kanji 忙 is written with the elements for “heart” and “losing life”—a striking image of what can happen to us when life becomes too busy.
There’s nothing wrong with being busy. But when life gets too busy, we can lose sight of what really matters. We have less time to reflect on our own lives and less time to be truly present with the people around us.
2) What Would You Have Left?
Imagine that tomorrow, your company no longer needed you. What would you have left?
That can be a difficult question, especially when you’ve given so much of yourself to your work. After investing years of your time and energy in your job, you may begin to wonder: If all of this suddenly disappeared, what would remain?
Is life simply about working, eating, growing older, and eventually dying?
Questions like these have a way of surfacing when the busyness finally stops.
3) An Invitation to the Weary
The Bible speaks directly to people who are carrying this kind of weariness.
Jesus Christ says:
28“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.
This is more than advice about slowing down or getting more rest. Jesus Himself is making a promise: “Come to me, and I will give you rest.”
But what kind of rest is He talking about? And why do we need it?
4) When Life Is Off-Center
Think of a bicycle with a wheel that is out of alignment. It may keep moving, but something is clearly wrong. It doesn’t run the way it was meant to.
The Bible says something similar has happened to us.
We were created to know God and to live in relationship with Him. But instead of living with God at the center, we have turned away from Him and put ourselves at the center. The Bible calls this sin.
When God is no longer at the center, other things take His place—our ambitions, our desires, money, success, or even our work. We may keep going, but deep down, our lives are no longer aligned with the One who made us.
The Bible teaches that we have all sinned and fallen short of what God intended us to be.
23for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,
But God has not given up on us.
He sent His Son, Jesus Christ, who took our sins upon Himself and died on the cross. Through Jesus, the way has been opened for us to be reconciled to God and to begin living in relationship with Him again.
5) You Can Begin Today
This is why Jesus can say:
“I will give you rest.”
The rest Jesus offers goes deeper than simply taking a break from a busy life. He invites us to come back to God and begin living the life we were created for.
You don’t have to understand everything about Christianity today. And you don’t have to have everything figured out before you come to Jesus.
You can simply begin by talking to Him.
“Lord Jesus, I want to know You.”
You don’t need special words. You can come to Him just as you are.
6) A Prayer You Can Pray
If you’re not sure what to say, you could begin with a prayer like this:
“Lord Jesus, I need You. In the busyness of my life, I have lost sight of what really matters. I want to understand what it means that You died on the cross for my sins. Please turn my heart toward You and help me to know You. Give me the true rest and peace that I need.”
